Wonder if this will help people understand that American Youth have a clue as well.

Excellent response; I'm impressed.

LOL! isn't that awesome!! I've so much more respect for her now, I really do. And we should have known, shes not an idiot she just likes a good party. The two aren't mutually exclusive. That's who millennials are, individuals who can think

Chris Bowers has a good post

Chris Bowers has a good post up on this.

He posits that Hilton's response to the McCain campaign has put it in a lose-lose situation. I agree and think the McCain camp miscalculated here.

Of course McCain will spin it like she's even more well-versed than Obama on energy policy, but I think that's not going to play well with voters because that would make the McCain campaign look even more out of touch by failing to understand that they are being mocked.

UPDATE: Oops -- Matt Stoller had a post up prior to Chris's.

He points out another angle -- Hilton, the supposed know-nothing celebrity, is espousing a plan that is similar to McCain's. Obama's already cornered him by supporting the "Gang of Ten" compromise in the Senate. To top it off, Hilton helped Obama by doing the dirty work, hitting McCain with the age attack.

Nail on the head

Agreed with both Matt and Chris. McCain has boxed himself in. Now he is more associated with Hilton than Obama is, and that's only going to get worse and worse as this gets more play on late night TV, gossip columns and magazines, Best Week Ever, etc. The sheer force of this in teh pop culture is going to force the rest of the media to continue to cover it.

It's even worse because she not only put forth a plan similar to McCain's, she spoke as intelligently about it as the candidates do. This is the consequence of the soundbite culture. Anyone can sound equally intelligent with a well-crafted 20 second response.

The question is no longer "Is Barack like Paris," it's "How is McCain different from Paris."

Depending on how big a hit McCain takes on this, Paris Hilton maybe the driving force of the political narrative until the conventions. It's a mad mad world.

notice

how she also refers to John McCain just as "McCain" and McCain's policy but talks about Obama by his first name...

"But Barack says..."

just throwing that out there

Godamn that's hot.
