MoveOn Hiring for Fellowship
MoveOn is hiring a for a number of 5-month fellowships. Details after the jump.
MoveOn Seeks Rising Stars for Fellowship Program
MoveOn is starting a fellowship program, to share skills and to provide talented folks with a platform to promote the goals of the progressive movement. Rising stars of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply for a 5-month position within MoveOn.
MoveOn Fellows will work alongside our top campaigners to end the war in Iraq, stop the climate crisis, win the '08 election and make their mark on other high-profile issues.
The program will start with about a dozen finalists coming together for an intimate, behind-the-scenes crash course in MoveOn's strategies and tactics. After this two-day intensive, up to four Fellows will have the opportunity to remain at MoveOn for in a five-month, full-time, paid position. Each Fellow will have a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a senior MoveOn staffer. Fellows will have opportunities to launch their own projects and work with the team to test new ideas in on- and off-line organizing. MoveOn will assist Fellows in searching for jobs in the progressive movement -- possibly within MoveOn itself.
Because MoveOn operates as a "virtual organization," Fellows can participate in the fellowship from anywhere in the United States.
We are looking for a diverse group of applicants, united by their passion for a more progressive America. We don't care if you've spent years working for progressive organizations or if you haven't even finished school. How you got here isn't important; where you're going is.
To apply, just go to: http://www.moveon.org/fellowship/
Key skills we're looking for:
- An organizer at heart. You should be eager to empower and engage others in the democratic process.
- Passionate about progressive politics. Saving the world is your life, not just your job.
- Calm under fire. When the RNC attack you in the media, you can keep a cool head and a strategic focus.
- Leadership potential or experience. You start projects, rally people, inspire others.
- Excellent writing skills. Your writing should be sharp, personable, and memorable.
- Strong self-starter, entrepreneurial. You don't need someone to tell you what to do.
- Willing to do what it takes to make a project come off. Low ego, high focus on getting stuff done.
- Hard worker, can do flexible hours and manage your time independently. You know that changing the country doesn't always happen between 9 and 5.
- Comfortable with a virtual office. You can work with colleagues from Tokyo to Atlanta.
- At ease with technology. You don't have to know a lick of HTML, but you should know what HTML is.
The first Fellowship training course will begin Friday, Oct 12. Applications will be accepted until Sept 21. For more details, go to http://www.moveon.org/fellowship.
Those who stay on for five-month Fellowship will be full-time, paid employees. For this reason, applicants must be US Citizens or resident aliens. MoveOn.org is an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color, LGBT people and others are strongly encouraged to apply.
If this sounds like you, we warmly invite you to fill out the Fellowship application page.
If this sounds like someone you know, please nominate them! Email fellowship@moveon.org with their name and contact information, and why you think they would make a good fellow. Thank you!
