Damn straight!

I'm seriously digging the Minnesota lovefest lately. It's nice that when we get some national recognition for the right reasons.

However, if you went up and asked the average Minnesotan about "EDR," they would probably stare at you blankly. We call it Same-day Voter Registration here, and I've never heard anyone refer to it by any acronym.

It is a very awesome part of our political culture here, and the subject of ire by a lot of Minnesota's far right who are convinced that it's used to defraud elections despite no supporting evidence. It was also the subject of one of the three lawsuits the Minnesota DFL won on election day in 2006. A good chunk of students at the University of Minnesota were turned away from the polls through a convoluted interpretation of the law. In the end, the polling place in question was ordered to stay open an hour later to provide an opportunity for those students who had been turned away to still come and vote.

So, all the rest of you states should get your acts together and join us. Just remember to bring a couple of lawyers along for the ride.
