Colbert Report

Colbert, Nas, MoveOn and Color of Change Smackdown Fox

Update: Go read Ari Melber's take over at The Nation.
--------------------------------
Yesterday I mentioned that Nas, Color of Change, and MoveOn were holding a rally outside Fox News to protest the network's racism. Fox ignored them, but Colbert made them the feature of his program last night. Here's the whole thing. Watch it.

Clair McCaskill Rocks the Colbert Report

Clair McCaskill rocked it on the Colbert Report last night - giving props to young voters for being involved and touting the passage of the new GI Bill:

Quick Hits - 4/16/08

I'm going to be on KRCL RadioActive in Salt Lake City at noon Mountain Time today. The program is scheduled to be an hour long and I'll be on with a number of local youth activist. Should be fun. Tune in if you can. Later tonight I'll be speaking at the Boulder Bookstore in Boulder Colorado at 7:30pm. If you are in the area, come hang out.

The internet knows things:

  • John McCain tells Chris Matthews that he will "contest every youth vote" in the general election.
  • McJoan at Daily Kos notes that in the deepest of deep red districts in Idaho, young high schoolers are converting to Democrats at dramatic rates.
  • The San Francisco Chronicle looks at how the media and the parties are looking to engage young latinos, a large and fast-growing swing vote. Most interesting fact, half of all Latinos in America are under the age of 40.
  • Michell Obama survives her appearance on the Colbert Report:

For your afternoon viewing pleasure. And if you've missed it, YouTube is planning to depose both Stewart and Colbert in their case against Viacom.

Quick Hits and Follow-Ups

Things in the world of progressive youth politics worth checking out today:

  • The Pew Research Center for People and the Press confirms that viewers of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are still the most politically informed Americans. Score another one for the stoned slacker brigades.
  • David All at Tech President outlines five types of viral video he'd like to see by November 2008 (with examples). It's a well thought-out selection (though not comprehensive), and some of his examples are right on the money.
  • Lauren Wolfe, president of the College Democrats, was on MyDD Blog Talk Radio this weekend discussing the College Dems new New Media strategy. Facebook, Video, Podcasts and a new website launching in the fall, listen here (iTunes, Windows Media).
  • Finally, a few weeks ago we told you that Mitt Romney was trying to entice young people to fundraise for his campaign by offering them 10% of all they raise above $1,000. Turns out that may not be so ethical.

Rahm Emanuel's Strategery

Way to go Rahm. Advising congressional Democrats to avoid a direct line to some of the most active and energized young voters by staying off the Colbert Report.

Brilliant.

I wonder what John Tester and Jim Webb or Joe Courtney, the new congressman from Connecticut’s 2nd District, would say about that?
