Young Celebrities Like Clinton

I tend to think that this means nothing, but just to be current, Mark Ambinder is reporting that the actress who plays Ugly Betty, and Amber Tamblyn are both supporting Hillary and will be co-chairs of Hill Blazers, the Hillary youth operation:

Young actors America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn, today announced their endorsement of Hillary Clinton. They will serve as national co-chairs of "HillBlazers," the campaign's youth outreach program and will campaign on behalf of Hillary in key states, including Nevada. Both Amber and America are expected to campaign in Las Vegas this week.

For what it's worth, props to Amber Tamblyn who was heavily involved with some non-partisan youth GOTV stuff in 2004. It's great that this political involvement among young people is a real issue for her. But as I said, I tend to think this means very little. People don't vote for a candidate because a celebrity says so. Celebrities can make people pay more attention, but I don't think they're real influencers in how one votes. It's hard to know for sure, but that's my gut feeling.

Also, just a little dig - for someone who keeps talking about how she won't/isn't playing the gender card, Hillary's outreach continues to be dominated by young women and aimed at young women. Nothing wrong with that - it's clearly her base of support among all age demographics. But the race and gender cards are flying wildly from both sides, regardless of what the spin is from either campaign. This is just the latest incarnation of it manifested in Hillary's rejuvenated youth outreach operation.
