Roosevelt Institute Campus Network Summer 2010 Internship Opportunity

For those of you undergraduate students looking for a great summer internship, check out The Roosevelt Institute Campus Network's posting below:

The Roosevelt Institute Campus Network’s Summer Academy combines a full-time, paid internship with a training curriculum and weekly networking events as part of an integrated program of leadership development. Our objective is to bring new, diverse, and progressive voices into the political process, and we pair these young leaders with progressive partner organizations that will task them with substantive, policy-related work. This highly selective program is open to all undergraduate students and runs for ten weeks, from June 3rd to August 12th, 2010. If you are interested in applying, visit the Roosevelt website. The deadline to apply is February 26th.

This opportunity is great in that 1.) it is with a great youth-driven organization; 2.) it's a terrific opportunity to get your progressive voice heard; 3.) it's an awesome chance to build relationships with colleagues in other progressive organizations and work with them to advance progressive policies.

Here is the application on their website.

Dozens of Youth Leadership Training Opportunities

The folks at the Bus Project have put together an incredible working document of progressive and non-partisan training programs. You can find the full document here (and the folks at the Bus are encouraging people to edit the document to add in new opportunities or more information about those already listed. It's a great, great resource already listing almost 40 different training programs ranging from the hyper-partisan and political to more non-partisan, social justice and civic oriented opportunities.

As usual, nothing but excellence from the folks at The Bus.

Intern at the White House (If You Are Rich)

Want to intern at the White House? Submit your application here. You better have some $$$$ though, because the White House doesn't have any scratch to help you with housing or transportation.

Really????

Remember Last Summer When...

Nekpen Osuan was a member of the inaugural class of DMI Scholars.

I am truly excited about the upcoming Presidential election, especially because it seems that the vote of young voters will prove to be a significant voice in selecting the best candidate - the best years are definitely ahead of us and it seems more young Progressives want to grab life by the horns. NO more waiting for the world to change, we are instead, being the change we wish to see in the world. Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity to learn more about politics and public policy, meet elected officials along with other college progressives in the wonderful city of New York. Each day was filled with exploration of power and strategies necessary for effective and sustainable public policy. The coursework and guest speakers gave maturity to my knowledge and understanding of the progressive movement I see shaping the world around me. I also enjoyed the opportunity to meet with other progressive
leaders and students looking to shape our country to the very best it can be. What is this amazing opportunity I speak of? Please consider this a personal invitation to apply to the DMI Scholars Program.

The DMI Scholars program trains progressive college activists from across the country for the public policy field. The networking opportunities and training sessions remain vividly in my mind as the most intense two weeks of my life! It was a rare opportunity to explore and challenge my ideas of what it means to be progressive among other phenomenal student leaders. At the same time, we got to visit and mingle with New York leaders from all walks of policy careers. It made me, without a doubt, more prepared to be a change agent.

MARK YOUR CALENDER - the application deadline is fast-approaching on Sunday, January 27, you can go to www.dmischolars.org for more information, or visit the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy Scholars page on Facebook.

Movement Update, Wiki Update, Candidate Update

Couple quick items.

  • First, Ben Waxman has an article in Dissent about how badly conservatives are kicking progressive ass when it comes to investing in the next generation. It's a good primer if you're unfamiliar with just how massively behind we are in this critical piece of movement building.

Summer Internships: Liberals and Leftists Strike Out
  • Speaking of which, Brandon Silverman of The Center for Progressive Leadership just updated the Jobs and Training section of our DIY Politics wiki. While Ben may be right that conservatives are investing more in their future leaders than progressives, there are a variety of training programs, fellowships, and internships available for those looking for a way into the progressive movement. Some of them even come with financial assistance.

Check them out at DIY Politics.

The wiki has grown quite a bit in the last two weeks. It may not look pretty (yet), but we're making headway in compiling content. Young People For has agreed to let us republish their Little Black Book series in wiki format, so we now have fairly robust sections on campus organizing and media/messaging (Thanks to YPF Executive Director Iara Peng). Thanks also to reader Erin Kenzie, who is single handedly building a great section about organizational operations.

If you haven't yet contributed, sign up and write an article.

  • Finally, this article goes beyond CNN/Rock the Vote's insulting (and planted) "PC vs. Mac" question and examines where the major '08 candidates stand on IT issues like Net Neutrality.
