So It's Biden

So It's Biden. After a week of rampant, totally uninformed speculation, the secret was blown last night by Drudge and others tracking a charter flight out of Deleware. CNN and Reuters were reporting it before I went to bed.

I wake up this morning, and bam - there's the text message. My Treo was the last to know. But hey, Obama did get all those cell phone numbers.

As for the man himself - he's one of the better choices out a a decidedly lackluster field of finalists (Bayh? Kaine?). So if you're feeling kinda blah about the whole thing, like me, here's the upside of the Biden Veep pick:

  • Joe Biden was elected to the Senate at age 29. He's the orginal Young Elected Official. He knows what it's like to be a young person struggling to make a name in politics.
  • The Drum Major Institute gives him a 95% rating for the middle class. There are some very good, pro-youth votes in there as well for things like Pell Grants, the Dream Act, and energy independence.
  • Joe Biden doesn't take guff from anyone. He's quick on his feet in a debate and he's a blunt, authentic speaker. He tore down Giulliani in the primaries with his amazing "Noun, Verb, 9/11" quip. Maybe he can do the same with Jonh POW McCain.
